Evaluation

For this assignment we had to choose something that is an ethical issue and at the end of the assignment we create a final poster/artwork for awareness to the viewers and get our point across in this case for example , drugs , crime, robbery. For my ideas I firstly chose to do drugs but then I felt like this topic is used too much and most people already get informed about drugs, also for this topic I would have to get images of drug abuse victims or show drugs in the poster and it will be hard to get access to those images. For my second idea and the one that I went with was Human Trafficking because I feel like it is a topic that is not spoken about as much as others such as drugs. Furthermore there is a lot more to it because it is an industry that is underground and nobody actual is aware of what is going on therefore I chose this subject to educate others and it was a subject that I didn't know much about and as I got deeper into it I realized it was a horrible industry and it should be stopped. Secondly we created a schedule for when we are going to complete this assignment, this helped me stay on track and not fall behind.

Then we had to create a proposal on what we was going to produce after that we had to research into other existing posters about human trafficking for this I researched four different posters and got ideas from them for example, if the poster had facts and figures, or how many images or if the title was big and bold. From this task I learned a lot and this helped me when producing my final piece. After I completed that task I went onto research meaningful photos which had been taken by other artists this was because for my final piece I chose to do  photography and design poster. One of the photographs that stood out the most was Toshiyuki Tsenunars  photo which very effective and it showed emotion, in the photo there was a woman sitting down crying and in the background was demolished houses from an earthquake in Japan, I believe this photo helped because it made me take a meaningful photo for the viewers to see and feel sympathy for the person in the image. Then I had to do initial research this was when I researched other websites about Human trafficking and see how their website was set out and what titles, eye catching images they used.

After that I created A Survey Monkey for the viewers this was to see if they knew much about human trafficking and to get them familiar with it, furthermore I put a fact on one of the surveys questions  with answers which they had to answer and only 1 in 9 people got the fact question right. This helped me because I added the correct answer on my poster, I believe this task helped me introduce what human trafficking was to viewers. When that task was finished I started to create my poster in stages, the first stage was contact sheets I created 3 contact sheets and analysed all of them I had 2 locations for the photo shoot, the first one was in my garage where there was a mattress, and gas tanks, and other scary equipment, also the model was on a chair and had her eyes and hands tied up , the second location was in a corner of my bedroom where the model would be sitting in the corner eyes and hands tied with a note saying help me on her. I preferred the images in the garage and I chose one of the images in the garage for my final piece, the image I chose was DSCN5783.JPG because I believed that it is a very eye-catching image and you can see every single detail in the background, including the props such as gas tanks. Furthermore the mattress in the background connotes sex slavery which is a very effective message in the photograph and the way everything is scattered on the floor shows that when you are captured your taken to a nice place.

After I completed the contact sheet and chose the image I was going to use, I started to edit it in Photoshop and I added a title which says Recognize and underneath it is says 'Human trafficking' I done this in bold writing so it stands out and it is one of the first thing you see when you look at the poster. Furthermore I made half of the image black and half of it in color to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel for people who are kidnapped that is another hidden message.Furthermore I added a fact at the bottom of the poster this fact was from my survey that only 1 in 9 got right and it is a very effective because the figures are extremely high and when people see it they see how horrible the industry is. After that I added a human rights logo from the internet but this was copyright free which means anybody can use that logo and I used it on my work to show that we support human rights and also I added a red banner and on top of it I wrote ''MAKE IT STOP'' in bold writing so people get aware when they view it. I wouldn't do anything differently if I had to do it again but from this assignment I have learned how much research helped me throughout this assignment as you can see. Furthermore I believe I have reached my target audience which was age 8+ this is because at this age children start to mature and know the basics of life so it is good to teach them about bad that is in this world too,

My presentation went well I had a loud clear voice, I talked about how research and meaningful photos have helped me throughout this project, I needed to talk a bit more about graphic work but it was good .Also I got great peer feedback from Shaun and Daniel when they looked at my final piece and presentation.

Breaking down my poster (awareness)

                                                           Breaking down my poster (awareness)
How it will raise awareness to others

I believe my poster will give awareness to many viewers and the image will affect viewers and persuade them to tell other about it and finally stop this crime. Furthermore my large and bold text titles will catch peoples attentions and show them the importance of it. I wrote ''recognize'' as the title to get people to recognize it. When they look at the image on my poster they will recognize the model and look at her and think that what is happening in the image is wrong such as the enviroment shes in, the way shes kidnapped ( face & hands) and the way she is helpless. This gives a little insight on what is actually going on in the world and if people see it themselves it will aware them more because this industry is mostly underground and not many people know or see about it. Also I have added a fact which is quite hard to take in when reading it because it gives the viewers the amount of people that are being affected by the industry and how their lives matter.

Survey Monkey and messages and meanings in poster

Messages and meanings in my poster

The reason for my poster being half black and half white is to show that there is light at the other end of the tunnel if we all help to stop this horrible crime/industry that is the reason for it, furthermore its based in a basement/dangerous environment to show people that when you get taken away its not a nice place where you get taken to, and the model in my image has her hand and eyes ties up , this is to show the viewers how helpless people are when they are kidnapped and put into the industry.

Surveymonkey
My questions on survey monkey have helped me create my poster.
My first question was ''What are your views on human trafficking'' And almost every single person quoted that ''Its horrible' this shows that people have some understanding of what it is so that's why I added the words ''Human trafficking'' onto my poster

Only 11.11% of people got question 3  correct, that is 1 out of 9 responses, because of this I added the actual facts and figures onto my poster which was was 600,000 - 800,000 people trafficked each year.

My fourth question gave a fact to the audience and asked for their views, I done this to educate them a little and find out how they felt about it. And by looking at the responses it had effective many people and they too found it ''disgusting''

To show where you can get help I added a website on my poster  because from question 5 on my survey 55.56% people voted for website. Therefore I added a website to my final art piece

In conclusion Survey monkey has helped me out because from this I have learned other peoples views on my questions and I knew what to add on my poster for example I added the fact that was on question 3 onto my poster to educate people and give them the right answer and I have also added a website because people voted that the most.

Editing & final poster

                                                         Editing process on Photoshop

Firstly when editing this image I uploaded the chosen image onto Photoshop, I then made a rectangle using the rectangle shape tool, I enlarged the rectangle and I fitted half of it onto the screen I changed the color of it to black. After that I changed the rectangle on the layers panel to Saturation and the opacity to 100% and the fill to 100% this gave it the black and white look, I wanted my poster to be half black and half color.

I then added text to he bottom of the image I added a fact to catch people attention after adding the text I bevel and embossed it to the way I want which was chisel hard, and I added some texture to it aswell, after that I stroked the text to size 8px so there was a small black border around it this is so the text would be easier to read and stand out more, due to not interfering with the background

After that I added a rectangle from the rectangle shape tool I changed the color to red so it can connote danger and violence, On top of the rectangle I added a headline in capitals and made it big and bold ''MAKE IT STOP'' to make it more detailed I added effects, the effects I added was Bevel and emboss, stroke, inner shadow, inner glow, gradient overlay, pattern overlay and outer glow, all these effects make it look professional furthermore I added the human rights logo and added some effects to that too, I placed this next to the text to show that we are supporting human rights.

After completing this I added a title saying ''RECOGNIZE'' and underneath it, I put ''HUMAN TRAFFICKING'' I added effects to these to make them look 3D and not plain and simple, the effects used are, bevel and emboss, inner glow and stroke the color of it is white so it stands out more after that I added a website for a human trafficking campaign for the viewers.

Contact sheets

Contact sheets

These images where took in my garage, all photos are took with flash on except
DSCN5773.JPG this is because I wanted to see what kind of lighting it would be
without the flash on and it was more of a yellow color therefore I kept the flash
on because I wasn't pleased with it off, Furthermore the ISO settings for all
the images are 600 this is because I wanted the images bright but not too bright
so we can see the different scary tools in the background, for example a saw, gas tank.

All the images up to DSCN5785.JPG where took in my garage and I used an aperture of f22 when taking these images, this is so the images where sharper and eye-catching. Furthermore for the 3 images at the end of the contact sheet this was took in my bedroom where the only source of light was my phones flashlight, these images where used with an ISO of 800 except DSCN5792.JPG which was used at 600 for a darker effect.

The images at the top DSCN5793.JPG and DSCN5795.JPG where used at an ISO of 1600 which was too bright and didnt fit the criteria therefore I changed the ISO settings to 800 on the other images which gave it a sharper effect and it was more clearer and less bright.

The image Im using for my final awareness poster work is this image because I think that its very eye-catching and you can see every single detail in the background, including the props, Furthermore the mattress in the background connotes sex slavery which is a very effective message in the photograph and the way everything is scattered on the floor shows that, when you are captured your not taken to a nice place, also the models eyes and hands are tied up so she cant move or see, this just shows how vulnerable and helpless people are when they get put into this industry.

Meaningful photographs taken

Toshiyuki Tsunenar

This powerful photo was captioned “Woman cries amid the ruins of Natori City, Japan, March 13.”
It shows a woman in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, weeping on the roadside two days after Great East Japan Earthquake struck northeastern Japan. it is an award-winning photo in the World Press Photo contest.

I believe that this photo shows many emotions and is effective to the viewers because
it shows a woman crying on the floor, and we can see the meaning of why she is crying because the background where she is sitting which has been demolished by an earthquake, we can truly see her sadness through her facial expression and we also can feel her pain through the image.

This photograph is called ''Russian soldiers preparing for the Battle of Kursk, July 1943''

This photograph was took by
Hector Rondón Lovera

This photo is very powerful and has many meaning behind it, we can see this especially by the clothes they are wearing, helmet and long sleeve, the title plays a big part because it tells us who the people are and what they are doing, the action this soldier is doing in the photo is very powerful, because we see that he puts his trust in faith and he knows that there is a possibility that he cant make it back home, therefore he could be praying inside his mind. I believe this photo is very emotional and is effective

This image shows a man enjoying the view of Jakarta from his hotel room
Photograph: Michael Theodoric/2015 Atkins Ciwem environmental photographer of the year.

This photograph  is also very powerful because it shows the separation of the rich from the poor, its still in the same area maybe meters away from each other, the rich are just in a higher building which shows where they are in society, looking down at the poor.

By looking at all these images. I believe that their meaning is very strong and powerful, it can effect many people in different ways, This has given me an idea of taking a photograph that is meaningful and which can effect people in many different ways, hopefully to raise awareness and to stop what I'm doing a poster about (Human trafficking)
