Evaluation
For this assignment we had to choose something that is an ethical issue and at the end of the assignment we create a final poster/artwork for awareness to the viewers and get our point across in this case for example , drugs , crime, robbery. For my ideas I firstly chose to do drugs but then I felt like this topic is used too much and most people already get informed about drugs, also for this topic I would have to get images of drug abuse victims or show drugs in the poster and it will be hard to get access to those images. For my second idea and the one that I went with was Human Trafficking because I feel like it is a topic that is not spoken about as much as others such as drugs. Furthermore there is a lot more to it because it is an industry that is underground and nobody actual is aware of what is going on therefore I chose this subject to educate others and it was a subject that I didn't know much about and as I got deeper into it I realized it was a horrible industry and it should be stopped. Secondly we created a schedule for when we are going to complete this assignment, this helped me stay on track and not fall behind.
Then we had to create a proposal on what we was going to produce after that we had to research into other existing posters about human trafficking for this I researched four different posters and got ideas from them for example, if the poster had facts and figures, or how many images or if the title was big and bold. From this task I learned a lot and this helped me when producing my final piece. After I completed that task I went onto research meaningful photos which had been taken by other artists this was because for my final piece I chose to do photography and design poster. One of the photographs that stood out the most was Toshiyuki Tsenunars photo which very effective and it showed emotion, in the photo there was a woman sitting down crying and in the background was demolished houses from an earthquake in Japan, I believe this photo helped because it made me take a meaningful photo for the viewers to see and feel sympathy for the person in the image. Then I had to do initial research this was when I researched other websites about Human trafficking and see how their website was set out and what titles, eye catching images they used.
After that I created A Survey Monkey for the viewers this was to see if they knew much about human trafficking and to get them familiar with it, furthermore I put a fact on one of the surveys questions with answers which they had to answer and only 1 in 9 people got the fact question right. This helped me because I added the correct answer on my poster, I believe this task helped me introduce what human trafficking was to viewers. When that task was finished I started to create my poster in stages, the first stage was contact sheets I created 3 contact sheets and analysed all of them I had 2 locations for the photo shoot, the first one was in my garage where there was a mattress, and gas tanks, and other scary equipment, also the model was on a chair and had her eyes and hands tied up , the second location was in a corner of my bedroom where the model would be sitting in the corner eyes and hands tied with a note saying help me on her. I preferred the images in the garage and I chose one of the images in the garage for my final piece, the image I chose was DSCN5783.JPG because I believed that it is a very eye-catching image and you can see every single detail in the background, including the props such as gas tanks. Furthermore the mattress in the background connotes sex slavery which is a very effective message in the photograph and the way everything is scattered on the floor shows that when you are captured your taken to a nice place.
After I completed the contact sheet and chose the image I was going to use, I started to edit it in Photoshop and I added a title which says Recognize and underneath it is says 'Human trafficking' I done this in bold writing so it stands out and it is one of the first thing you see when you look at the poster. Furthermore I made half of the image black and half of it in color to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel for people who are kidnapped that is another hidden message.Furthermore I added a fact at the bottom of the poster this fact was from my survey that only 1 in 9 got right and it is a very effective because the figures are extremely high and when people see it they see how horrible the industry is. After that I added a human rights logo from the internet but this was copyright free which means anybody can use that logo and I used it on my work to show that we support human rights and also I added a red banner and on top of it I wrote ''MAKE IT STOP'' in bold writing so people get aware when they view it. I wouldn't do anything differently if I had to do it again but from this assignment I have learned how much research helped me throughout this assignment as you can see. Furthermore I believe I have reached my target audience which was age 8+ this is because at this age children start to mature and know the basics of life so it is good to teach them about bad that is in this world too,
My presentation went well I had a loud clear voice, I talked about how research and meaningful photos have helped me throughout this project, I needed to talk a bit more about graphic work but it was good .Also I got great peer feedback from Shaun and Daniel when they looked at my final piece and presentation.
